Speaker Says COPE Sessions Open To Media From Tomorrow Onwards: Requests Media To Report With "Great Responsibility"

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said the sessions of the Committee of Public Enterprises (COPE) in Parliament would be made open to the media from tomorrow onwards.

The move is aimed to ensure greater transparency in the state sector.

Addressing Parliament today, Speaker Jayasuriya expressed confidence that the media would report the COPE sessions with great responsibility.

The sessions of the Parliamentary Select Committee probing Easter Sunday attacks were also made available to the media.

It was the first Parliamentary Select Committee to conduct hearings in the presence of media.
