UPFA Says JVP's Presidential Candidate A "Contractor" Of UNP: "The Main Objective Of JVP Candidate Is To Split Opposition Vote"

UPFA Parliamentarian Laskhman Yapa Abeywardena said the JVP's move to field a seperate candidate was a 'contract' assigned by the UNP.

Speaking to a private radio station, Abeywardena said the main objective of the JVP candidate was to split the opposition vote.

The MP said fielding a separate candidate from the JVP was a "conspiracy" carried out in collusion with the UNP.

The JVP's Presidential candidate will be announced during a rally at Galle Face Green On August 18.

Addressing a press briefing in Colombo yesterday, JVP MP Vijitha Herath said their candidate would be someone with "political experience."
