Some newspaper reports speculated Jayasuriya had threatened to quit his post if there was an attempt to engineer a "constitutional coup" similar to the one that took place on October 26, last year.

These reports came in the wake of rumours that President Sirisena was attempting to appoint Minister Sajith Premadasa as the Prime Minister, ousting Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Issuing a statement, Jayasuriya said the Parliament's duty is to defeat any unconstitutional in Parliament.

However, he expressed confidence that there would not be any unconstitutional move in Parliament and the media report was only a speculation.
