Senior medical practitioner Prof. Carlo Fonseka passed away at the age of 86.

Fonseka was receiving treatment at a hospital in Colombo following a brief illness.

He was a Chairman of the Sri Lanka Medical Council and a towering figure in the field of medical education in Sri Lanka.

In the sphere of arts, Fonseka is a well-known lyricist who has penned several popular songs.

He was also a prominent political activist in the 1980s.
