Sajith's Meeting With TNA Ends Without Significant Outcome: Party Remains "Unimpressed" By Presidential Aspirant's Policy On Tamil Issues

September 16, 2019

UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa's meeting with the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) yesterday has ended without a significant outcome, political sources added.

A senior spokesman of the TNA said they were not convinced by Premadasa's seemingly vague policy on devolution of power and problems faced by Tamils in the North and East provinces.

He said they were unlikely to support Premadasa at the Presidential election. "If the UNP fails to field an acceptable candidate, we will support JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake who has come up with a promising action plan," he added.

However, the TNA has indicated that they will support either Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe or Speaker Karu Jayasuriya who, according to TNA leaders, have shown genuine interest in resolving long-running problems faced by the Tamils.
