The United National Party unanimously decided to field Sajith Premadasa as the Presidential candidate of the party for the upcoming Presidential election.

Premadasa's name was proposed to the Working Committee by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

As no objections were raised, the Working Committee adopted the name without a vote. The decision will now be conveyed to the parliamentary group of the UNF.

With this development, Premadasa has officially become the Presidential candidate of the UNP.
