Former General Secretary of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP) Batty Weerakoon has passed away.

Weerakoon was 87 at the time of passing.

He also served as a Minister of the Science and Technology in the Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga government.

Weerakoon is a veteran politician who dedicated his life to the cause of Leftist politics.
