Mahinda Rajapaksa Will Assume Premiership Once Gotabhaya Rajapaksa Is Elected As President: Mahinda Amaraweera

UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera said Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa would be appointed the Prime Minister, if SLPP candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa became the President.

Addressing a press conference in Colombo, Amaraweera said it would be impossible for Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to work with a UNP cabinet.

"In such an event, we will secure a parliamentary majority and form our own government. We will proceed with our government until the next Parliamentary election," he added.

Amaraweera expressed confidence that over 120 MPs would support Gotabhaya Rajapaksa in Parliament after the Presidential election.
