Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe Now Under Increasing Pressure To Step Down From Party Leadership

November 18, 2019

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has come under increasing pressure to step down from party leadership following the party's defeat at the Presidential election.

It is widely speculated that Prime Minister Wickremesinghe will hand over the party leadership to another senior figure and retire from active politics.

UNP presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa and several others have already stepped down from their positions in the party.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe, however, is currently attending the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
