Senior civil servant Gamini Senarath has been appointed the Secretary to the Prime Minister.

The appointment was announced soon after former President Mahinda Rajapaksa took oaths as the Prime Minister.

Senarath was the Chief of Staff to the President when Mahinda Rajapaksa held office before 2015.

However, he faced several court cases and investigations after the Sirisena-Wickremesinghe government came into power.
