Senior Advisor To Prime Minister Says Abduction Of Swiss Embassy Worker Was A"Conspiracy" To Discredit New Government

December 04, 2019

Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister and Sri Lanka Podujana Party Chairman Prof. G.L. Peiris said the controversy surrounding the alleged abduction of an embassy worker in Sri Lanka was a conspiracy.

Speaking to the media in Anuradhapura, Peiris said the objective of the conspiracy was to "discredit" the newly-appointed government of Sri Lanka.

He said there were serious mismatches between the information provided by the Swiss Embassy in Colombo and the evidence gathered by the Sri Lankan law enforcement authorities.

The Advisor said the move might have been aimed at embarrassing the new government before the Human Rights Council session in Geneva.
