"Parliament Will be Certainly Dissolved In March: Election Campaign Will Be Handled By Prime Minister" - President

December 17, 2019

The current Parliament will certainly be dissolved in March, President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said.

Addressing a meeting with media heads, Rajapaksa said he needed a strong Parliament to administer the country.

"The current Parliament does not reflect the people's will or mandate," he added.

The President added that the Parliamentary election campaign will be handled by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, with the support of former Minister Basil Rajapaksa.

He also added that all the elections that were postponed by the previous governments would be held as soon as possible.
