Sajith Premadasa Turns Down Prime Ministerial Candidacy Without Party Leadership

December 18, 2019

UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa said he would not become UNP's Prime Ministerial candidate of the party without the party leadership.

Speaking at a meeting in Kolonnawa, Premadasa said he was ready to lead the party at the upcoming Parliamentary election.

He also said he would accept responsibility for the defeat at the Presidential election.

Meanwhile, addressing the same meeting, MP S.M. Marikkar said nominating Premadasa as the Prime Ministerial candidate without the party leadership was a trap.

"We will not fall for that trap. We will fight until Premadasa becomes the party leader," he added.
