71 Homes Damaged During Aluthgama Disturbances Returned To Owners

Army Spokesman Ruwan Wanigasooriya says that ninety three houses and shops that were damaged during the unrest in Aluthgama and Beruwala have been renovated and handed over to the owners so far. These include 71 houses and 22 shops.

Speaking to the media, Brig. Wanigasooriya further added that reconstruction works of 109 houses and 33 shops were currently in progress. However, a specific time period for the completion of reconstruction works could not be given.

“A time frame cannot be given because there are buildings that are partially damaged and there are others which have to be rebuilt from scratch,” Brig. Wanigasooriya had earlier said. He further stated that the military was trying to finish the work as quickly as possible under the circumstances.

According to Wanigasooriya, 211 houses and 82 shops were damaged in total due to the unrest which happened in June this year.

It was earlier reported that the government is spending Rs 200 million in the reconstruction work.
