President Holds Meetings With Representatives From Four Global Super Powers: Says He Is "Deeply Encouraged" By Support For Economic Revival

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said he was deeply encouraged by meetings held and the support pledged for Sri Lanka's economic revival by four of the world’s super-powers in the last 24 hours, President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said.

Rajapaksa held meetings with high-profile dignitaries from the United States, China, Russia and Japan yesterday.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said Russia and Sri Lanka will continue to cooperate in the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and other UN bodies “to pursue shared interests. He made the remarks after his interaction with the visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday.

“In the past three decades, we have fought against ruthless terrorism in or respective countries. We face numerous challenges in multilateral fora where we continue to support each other. I take this opportunity to extend Sri Lanka’s deep appreciation to the government of the Russian Federation for its unequivocal support for Sri Lanka’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Therefore, a strong sense of understanding , solidarity and mutual respect underpin the Sri Lanka-Russia bilateral engagement,” Gunawardena said.
