President Instructs Police Chief To Arrest Individuals Only When It Is Absolutely Necessary And In Strict Compliance With Law

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has instructed Acting IGP Chandana Wickremaratne that arrests should be carried out only when it is absolutely necessary.

The President's Media Division said Rajapaksa has instructed the Police Chief that individuals must be arrested upon a decision made with utmost care and in strict compliance of the law.

The statement came following the Police arrested UNP MP Ranjan Ramanayake for the second time this month.

Ramanayake was arrested this time with the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) for interfering with the law enforcement process with regard to a number of high-profile investigations.
