Puttalam District UNP MP Shantha Abeysekera, who was in remand for nearly 3 months, has been released on bail.

Abeysekera was remanded for violating bail conditions over a 2004 case.

In 2004, Abeysekara and three others were charged before the Chilaw High Court for being members of an unlawful assembly and having a firearm and a stock of live ammunition in their possession.

They were later released on bail by the Chilaw High Court on March 21, 2011
