Constitutional Council To Summon Attorney General To Seek Explanation On His Questionable Conduct

Attorney General Dappula De Livera will be summoned before the Constitutional Council over his questionable conduct, the Speaker's Office said in a statement.

The Attorney General's conduct came under criticism when he instructed the Acting IGP to obtain a warrant to arrest Embilipitiya High Court judge Gihan Pilapitiya over his leaked telephone conversation with UNP MP Ranjan Ramanayake.

The Attorney General's instructions to the Police on arrests of Parliamentarians have also sparked a controversy.

Irked by the Attorney General's conduct, the President directed the Acting IGP to arrest individuals only when it is absolutely necessary.

The decision to summon the AG before the Constitutional Council was made when it met under the patronage of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
