Experts Committee Appointed By Government To Study MCC Agreements Decides To Seek Public Views

The committee appointed by the current government to make recommendations on the Millenium Corporation Challenge (MCC) has decided to seek public views on the matter.

The committee is headed by Dr. Lalithasiri Gunaruwan. It is still not clear as to when the committee is expected to present its final recommendations to the government.

Although the previous government gave Cabinet approval to proceed with the signing of the agreement, it was withheld by the current government. Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and former Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera were strongly pushing for the agreement.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa stated that the government would make a final decision on the matter based on the recommendations of the committee.
