DIG Lionel Gunathilake has been appointed the Chief of the Police Special Task Force (STF).

He replaces Senior DIG M.R. Latiff who retired from office following an illustrious career.

Gunathilake functioned as the second in command at the STF before his promotion.

The new appointment has been approved by the National Police Commission (NPC).
