Ruling Party MP Prasanna Ranaweera's Inclusion In Prime Minister's Delegation To India Sparks Controversy

February 09, 2020

Ruling party MP Prasanna Ranaweera's inclusion in Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa's delegation to India has come under severe criticism from many quarters.

Ranaweera, a UPFA MP from the Gampaha District, rose to fame in the wake of the chilli powder attack in Parliament in November 2018.

It is not clear why Ranaweera, who does not play any role in relation to international affairs, has been included in the delegation.

Ranaweera also met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian Congress Party head Rahul Gandhi.

In an interserting turn of events, Ranaweera, on his official Facebook page, referred to Rahul Gandhi as the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi.
