SLPP Refuses To Give Joint Leadership To Former President Sirsena: Offers To Appoint Him As Joint National Organizer Alongside Basil

February 10, 2020

The Sri Lanka Podujana Party (SLPP) has reportedly communicated to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) that former President Maithripala Sirisena will not be given the joint leadership of the alliance.

Instead of the joint leadership, the SLPP has offered to appoint Sirisena as the joint national organizer of the alliance.

Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa is also expected to function as the joint national organizer of the new alliance.

However, the SLFP is yet to respond to the SLPP's new proposition.

The alliance is also likely to contest under the 'flower bud' symbol of the SLPP. Upon his arrival to Sri Lanka last week, Basil Rajapaksa said they would contest the election under a winning symbol.
