Jathika Samagi Sandhanaya Runs Into Fresh Problem Over 'Swan' Symbol: Legal Issues Force Alliance To Reconsider Decision

February 20, 2020

The Jathika Samagi Sandhanaya has run into a fresh problem over its symbol for the next PArliamentary election.

The Elections Commission has reportedly informed the alliance that there were legal issues pertaining to the use of 'Swan' as the symbol of the new alliance.

As a result, the alliance has been forced to reconsider its decision to use 'Swan' as its symbol.

Swan is the symbol used by the New Democratic Front, under which Premadasa contested the last Presidential election.

The alliance previously had a plan to use 'heart' as the symbol. The decision, however, was shot down by the majority of UNP Working Committee members.
