Provincial Council Elections Amendment Act To Be Taken Up Before Cabinet Today: New Parliament To Pass Act After May

Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said Provincial Councils Elections (Amendment) Act No 17 of 2017 will be presented for Cabinet approval today.

Once the legislation is approved by the Cabinet, it will be possible to conduct long-delayed Provincial Council polls after Parliamentary Elections are concluded.

Parliament will convene for the new session during the first week of May. Government sources said the PC election would be held before the end of this year.
