Attorney General Advises Elections Commission To Follow The Procedure Established By Law To Conduct Parliamentary Election

The Attorney General has advised the Election Commission to follow the procedure established by law to conduct Parliamentary Elections in terms of the advice sought by the National Elections Commission.

The Elections Commission is now facing a tough situation as preferential numbers for candidates have not been gazetted so far.

The Commission previously said it would issue the numbers on May 04 in order to conduct the election on June 20.

Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya has already told the media that they will not be in a position to conduct the election on June 20 should the country fail to return to normalcy by May 15.

The Commission fails to conduct the election on the announced day, the country will be plunged into a fresh constitutional crisis.
