High Commissioner Saroja Sirisena Sends Letter To UK-Based Guardian Questioning The Use Of "Eelam" As Ancient Name For Sri Lanka

Saroja Sirisena, Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the UK has written to the Editor of the Guardian newspaper questioning the use of the word ‘Eelam’ as an ancient name for Sri Lanka.

This has been included in a Travel quiz prepared by the Guardian, a UK based publication.

In her letter, the High Commissioner highlights that the LTTE his banned organization in many countries, including the UK, and it was wrong to promote their ideology in a publication.

Following the High Commissioner's intervention, the publication has taken down the controversial content.
