Police Spokesman Hits Back At UPFA General Secretary

September 01, 2014

Police Media Spokesman Ajith Rohana hit back at UPFA General Secretary Minister Susil Premajayantha stating that the Minister's claims on the police being inactive over the assault on SLFP supporters in Badalkumbura are false.

The Minister made these remarks highlighting an incident where a group of JVP members allegedly assaulted a SLFP office in Badalkumbura injuring the SLFP members who were in the premises.

Minister Susil Premejayantha last Wednesday said that the police has failed to take action regarding the incident.

“According to the reports we received, if the police had intervened sooner the damage to the property and the safety of the SLFP members would not have been in jeopardy”, the Minister said.

While accusing the police of its inefficiency the Minister maintained that if the police has taken the necessary action, it would put a stop to the erupting violence prior to the election.

Speaking to BBC Sandeshaya the police media spokesman said that the Minister’s accusations are baseless and that the police has intervened in the situation - which has also resulted in two policemen being injured.
