UNP celebrates party anniversary for the first time without any representation in parliament

September 06, 2020

The United National Party celebrated its 74th anniversary today at the party headquarters 'Sirikotha'.

UNP Leader and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe garlanded the statues of the founders of the party and paid tribute to them.

This is the first time the United National Party celebrates its anniversary without any representation in Parliament. The party leadersship has also become a matter of serious contention among its members.

Although the UNP has secured a national list seat in Parliament, the party has not nominated a member thus far.
