Prison Reforms Minister Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle asked the prison authorities to give their observarions on the current guidelines related to granting presidential pardon.

She has also appointed a committee, heade by the Secretary of the State Ministry, to prepare a report on the matter.

The Minister made this request after receiving numerous grievances from prisoners on the matter.

She has also instructed prison superintendents to pay closer attention to the welfare of prisoners.
