Police Announce Traffic Plan For Chinese President's Visit

Due to the arrival of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Police on Monday announced a vehicle plan for Tuesday (16) and Wednesday (17). Vehicle movements on several roads from Katunayake to Colombo and within the city of Colombo will be restricted from time to time during his visit. 

On Tuesday vehicle movements will be restricted from 10.30 am to 1.00 pm along the Katunayake-Colombo Expressway and from Peliyagoda to the Borella Kanatte junction. Furthermore, vehicle movement will be restricted from there along Bauddhaloka Mawatha to Bambalapitiya junction and from Bambalapitiya junction to Galle Face roundabout

On Tuesday, vehicle movements will be restricted from Kollupitiya junction to the old parliament roundabout (on Galle Road), Ceramic junction (Lotus road) to Bank Mawatha from 4.30pm to 9.00pm. The public will not be allowed to visit Galle Face Green from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm on Tuesday.

On Wednesday (17), traffic will be restricted from 8.30am to 11.00am, along Chaithya Road and from the old parliament roundabout along Galle Road to Kollupitiya junction.

Vehicle movements on Dharmapala Mawatha (Kollupitiya roundabout, Liberty roundabout, Red Cross roundabout) and from Library roundabout to Green Path and Nelum Pokuna, Horton Place, DS Color Lights, New Kelani Bridge (Baseline road) and on the Katunayake expressway will be restricted from 9.30am to 12.00 noon

Police request motorists to use alternative roads during these periods.

The Chinese President’s arrival might affect the Colombo International Book Fair on its last day since vehicle movement will be restricted for a few hours in Bauddhaloka Mawatha. Tuesday will be the last day of the week long book fair.
