Muslim Protest In Badulla Called Off After Anura Yapa's Intervention

A protest march organized by a group of Muslims in Badulla was called off at the eleventh hour after Petroleum Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa intervened in the matter.

The Minister has visited the Mosque in Badulla which was attacked two days ago. He held discussions with the Muslim community leaders and had convinced them to cancel a protest they had organized.

The Minister has promised that he will talk with the police over the matter.

The Muslims had planned to stage a protest march in Badulla after the Fridayprayers to demand police to take action on the attack on the Mosque and other disturbances on the 17th.

One Mosque, a school and 7 shops owned by Muslims were damaged in the disturbances which happened that night. Police has already arrested four people in connection of the unrest. However, they are said to be responsible for a separate incident which happened at a musical show on the same night.

The CCTV cameras in the Mosque have not functioned at the time of the attack.
