Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara thera has said that they will send an open invitation to all political parties to embrace the policies adopted by the Bodu Bala Sena at their general assembly.
Gnanasara thera has told reporters in an interview that the BBS would guarantee five million votes to the political parties in return. Addressing the recently held assembly of the BBS, Gnanasara thera said his organization had a guaranteed vote base of 5 million.
“Our principles are very clear. The name of the party, colour, symbol or race do not matter as long as they are willing to accept the policies we presented”, Gnanasara thera said. He added that the large majority of the Sinhala-Buddhist community of the country are supportive of the Bodu Bala Sena organization, which is dubbed as an extremist organization by some.
Gnanasara thera maintained that the BBS would definitely present a candidate from the organization if any of the present candidates did not comply with the BBS principles.
“We do not want to see hooligans taking up positions in the parliament. We need a genuine, educated personality as the next leader of the country. He or she should make sure that the rights of the Sinhala-Buddhist majority are not violated”, Gnanasara thera said.
However, Gnanasara thera accepted that the Bodu Bala Sena represents a political agenda and that the much talked about ‘Leader’ proposed by the BBS will emerge at the most appropriate time. "We are not worried about names or individuals. We are guided by the policies of the BBS and they will lead us to our goals," the controversial Buddhist monk said.
