Government To Pay Compensation For Victims Of War

The government has allocated Rupees 300 million to pay compensation for the people displaced due to the war in the north.

Compensation will be paid for people who have lost their limbs and also to those who have lost their property. A media statement released by the Information Department says that the government intends to finish paying the allocated compensation by the end of the year 2014. The government has paid Rupees 110 million already.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa is to distribute compensation worth Rupees 130 million to 1500 families in Iranamadu on October 12.

The Information Department also stated that work is underway to restore 100 places damaged by the war through District Secretariats and Divisional Secretariats under the supervision of the Governor of Northern Province G.A. Chandrasiri.
