Mervyn Officially Announces Malaka Silva's Entry Into Politics

Public Relations Minister Mervyn Silva has officially stated that his son, Malaka Silva, will enter active politics with the next general election.

Speaking to reporters, the minister has made this statement while adding that he has some unresolved issues with the government. Previous reports indicated that Malaka silva, who calls himself a businessman by profession, would enter politics from the District of Matara.

It was widely speculated that the Rajapaksa family had fallen out with Silva in the recent past over certain developments in the Kelaniya electorate. Silva too, hails from  Beliatta which is a stronghold of the Rajapaksa family.

Malaka Silva’s entry into mainstream politics does not come as a surprise. The Minister himself has indicated of the move few times in the recent past.

Malaka Silva’s name has already been mentioned in connection with several controversies. He first came to limelight when he allegedly assaulted a military officer in a nightclub premises in Colombo. The military officer later withdrew the charges against Silva saying the latter was not involved in the incident.

Last year, an unidentified group carried out an assault on Malaka Silva at the Odel car park. The incident, according to media reports, came as the result of a personal dispute between two parties.

 

On the other hand, Malaka Silva’s extravagant lifestyle has also drawn the attention of media over the past few years.
