Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara thera denied media reports claiming that the BBS will contest the forthcoming presidential election.
Speaking to Asian Mirror Gnanasara thera said such reports were false and they are aiming to create a confusion.
“The Bodu Bala Sena has no intension of presenting a candidate for the presidential election and we have not extend our support to any political party”, Gnanasara thera said. However, addressing a press conference in Colombo today, Gnanasara Thera said they would contest a Parliamentary election under the leadership of laymen. "Buddhist monks will offer guidance to them and will not contest elections,” Gnanasara Thera.
Commenting on the Executive Presidency, Gnanasara Thera said, the system was dangerous if a wrong person came to power. “Some leaders are good, but people around them make the entire system corrupt,” Gnanasara Thera.
He also added that the BBS could contest under their own name or under any other Sinhala-Buddhist party that accepts their policy. He also added that they had no major issue with the Jathika Hela Urumaya.
However, addressing a press conference in Colombo a few days ago, Gnanasara Thera criticized the set of proposals, put forward by ‘pivithuru hetak’ organization, led by Athuraliya Rathana Thera.
Gnanasara thera flatly rejected all such claims saying that BBS has not even been registered as a political party.
