Official Death Toll Rises To 192: MR Visits Koslanda

Official death toll of the massive landslide in Koslanda and Haldummulla has risen to 192.

Badulla District Secretary Rohana Keerthi Dissanayake has made an announcement disclosing a name-list of 192 people who died in the landslide incident which occurred early yesterday.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa, accompanied by Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, has arrived at Koslanda a short while ago, President’s media unit said. President Rajapaksa has visited the camps of the displaced in the area and has also monitored the progress of rescue missions that are still underway.

The President also instructed the authorities to expedite the operations and provide relief to the people who are affected.  

During this visit President Rajapaksa has requested the DMC to relocate the surrounding people in safer zones.

The official death toll is expected to rise within the next 24 hours and over 350 people are still missing., DMC sources told Asian Mirror. They also added that 820 people have been displaced due to the incident.
