November 02, 2014

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna has decided to hold discussions with opposition political parties over the current constitutional debate relating to the presidential election.

JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath has told local media that it expects to hold talks with the main opposition UNP and the TNA, as well as other parties. Meanwhile, it also plans to hold discussions with small constituent parties in the UPFA which have been raising concerns, such as the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) and the left parties in the government.

Meanwhile, the JVP is also prepared to discuss these issues with civil organizations working in different fields too.

The JVP is of the opinion that President cannot stand in the next presidential election. Its leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the JHU Chairman Athuraliye Rathana Thera gave key speeches in a recent rally in Nugegoda which was organized against Rajapaksa seeking a third term.
