UPFA Secures Victory With A Resounding Majority

The UPFA has secured victory in all districts in Western and Southern provinces except Colombo.

The ruling party won Galle, Matara, Colombo, Hambantota, Kalutara and Gampaha Districts convincingly, though UNP and JVP have been able to increase their vote base compared with the Provincial Council elections in 2009.

From the Western Province, the UPFA obtained 1363675 votes and won 56 seats while the UNP obtained 679682 votes. the main opposition party secured 28 seats at the council. Tjhe Sarath Fonseka led Democratic Party won 9 seats by obtaining 203767 votes. the JVP became fourth by winning 6 seats and securing 156208 votes. the Democratic People's Front led by Mano Ganesan  and the Muslim Congress won two seats each. 

From the Southern Province, the UPFA won 33 seats by obtaining 699408 votes. The UNP got 310431 votes which allowed them to have 14 members in the council. The JVP won 109032 votes (5 seats) and the Democratic Party obtained 75532 votes (3 seats)
