November 23, 2014

The common candidate of the opposition Maithripala Sirisena is scheduled to meet the leader of the National Movement for a Just Society (NMJS) Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera at Kotte Naga Viharaya this afternoon.

It is expected that they will discuss on the forthcoming presidential election. This is the first time they will meet face to face after Maithripala Sirisena accepted the role of common opposition candidate.

Furthermore, Sirisena will be paying visits to the Chief Prelates of Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters of Siam Nikaya at Kandy tomorrow.

Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera was a pioneer in arguing for the abolition of executive presidency for several months and was in the forefront in seeking to find a common opposition candidate.

Meanwhile Sirisena had arrived at an agreement with the UNP to form a national government for the first 100 days after coming to power. Its main aim will be to abolish the executive presidency within the stipulated 100 year period.
