UPFA MP Of Galle To Cross Over Next!

December 01, 2014

The next ruling party Parliamentarian who is likely to cross over to the opposition is an MP from the Galle district, Asian Mirror reliably learns.

A member of a prominent political family in the district, the Parliamentarian was elected to the legislature at the general election in 2010. However, he was not given a significant role by the government over the past four years.

Addressing his first public rally in Polonnaruwa, common candidate Maithripala Sirisena said, the Parliamentarians of the United People’s Freedom Alliance were in touch with him, on a regular basis.

However, the timelines of his crossover are not yet finalized, the common opposition sources added.

“Even yesterday, a minister contacted me and said he wanted to join with us. He had realized that we were the winning party  of the presidential election,” the common candidate told the cheering crowds of Polonnaruwa.

Former Minister Rajitha Senaratne, who also addressed the meeting, expressed the same sentiments saying more ruling party MPs would cross over the in the coming weeks.

“This is just the beginning. Many things will happen after the date of nominations. This is just the starting point of the erosion,” the former Minister said referring to the defection of former Minister Navin Dissanayake.

Dissanayake is scheduled to address a press conference in Colombo today explaining reasons that led to his resignation.
