December 11, 2014

Minister of National Languages and Social Integration Vasudeva Nanayakkara stated that the Jathika Hela Urumaya will not support abolition of the executive presidency.

Speaking at the media briefing at SLFP head quarters yesterday, Nanayakkara said that JHU is not a left movement but a Sinhalese nationalist movement. It had made it clear that it wants a Sinhalese Buddhist President, Nanayakkara added.

He also said that he wants to abolition of executive presidency and the transfer of its powers to the parliament. He was ready to accept it if anyone under the sun could do it. But anyone cannot do it and only President Rajapaksa can, he said.

Meanwhile Minister of Mass Media Keheliya Rambukwella has said that a new Ministry will be created for constitutional reform. But he added that those who support constitutional reform should enter the mechanisms created to implement it, rather than keep on shouting from outside.
