'Rajapaksa Govt Cannot Save Him, But We Will' : Rajitha

December 21, 2014

Joint-Media Spokesperson of the common opposition Dr Rajitha Senaratne alleged that President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s government cannot save him from being taken to international court.

Speaking at ‘Satana’ TV talk show on Sirasa TV last evening he said that the Minister of External Affairs can only preach his theories and his ministry has become ineffective in facing the international challenges. Senaratne said the Maithripal Sirisena government will adapt a more positive foreign policy in the middle path.

The new government will convince the international community that we can solve our problems among ourselves, and thereby stop the international community from intervening, he added.

Senaratne also mentioned that Sri Lanka is a member of the UN and has signed a number of other conventions and has to abide by them. As a member of UN, we are part of it, he said, and added that it was hilarious to see government ministers launching hunger strikes against the UN.

“Sri Lanka is the only country in which a minister launches a hunger strike against ourselves” Senaratne quipped.
