Just 11 days before the presidential election, the Police Headquarters has ordered the transfer of three ASPs, in stark contrast to the election laws.

When an election is announced, the Police Department is not allowed to transfer any Police officer attached to the department. In such as event, the Elections Commissioner has powers to act as a Competent Authority and cancel the transfers.

Accordingly, ASP P M K D Palihakkaara who earlier served in the Panadura division has been transferred to Badulla, ASP A D Premathilake who served in the Badulla has now been transferred to the Medical Services division and ASP A M U A Atapattu who served in the Trincomalee division has been transferred to Kantale, Serunuwara division.

Asian Mirror also learns that no complaint has so far been made with the Elections Commissioner with regard to the transfers.
