JVP Ridicules Claims Of International Conspiracy Behind The Common Candidate

December 29, 2014

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna has ridiculed the claims of an international conspiracy behind the emergence of common candidate Maithripala Sirisena as the presidential candidate.

Speaking at a media briefing yesterday at the party headquarters, JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath has said that the current presidential election was not called by US PResident Barack Obama, or pro-LTTE Diaspora figure Rudrakumaran or some other foreign individual.

He added that the president called for the election two years prior to the scheduled time since he was certain that his popularity was decreasing. Therefore, the government wanted to win this election using all state resources and thuggery, he added.

The government thought UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe would be the candidate against Mahinda Rajapaksa. But the unexpected emergence of Maithripala Sirisena has made the government furious, Herath added.
