'Election Is Not Violent As Portrayed' - Dullas

Minister Dullas Alahapperuma stated that even though there have been claims that the presidential election campaign has been violent, it was not violent as portrayed.

Speaking at a media briefing at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party headquarters yesterday, he said that the police have received only 314 elections related complaints by Monday morning. Only nine were about serious incidents, he added.

This is a relatively low number of reported incidents, especially given that the election is a national election, conducted across 12,022 polling booths, the Minister added. Therefore, he argued that it was not correct to describe the election as violent.

Meanwhile the UPFA General Secretary Minister Susil Premjayanth said that instructions have been given to all supports to stop campaigning after midnight on Monday.
