President Secures Majority In Parliament: New Cabinet To Be Appointed Tomorrow

With nearly 25 MPs of the UPFA deciding to support President Maithripala Sirisena, President Maithripala Sirisena has now secured a majority in the Parliament.

Therefore, the new President will be able to continue with his 100 day programme without dissolving the Parliament.

After President Sirisena securing the majority in the Parliament, the new Cabinet will be appointed tomorrow.

When President Maithripala Sirisena appointed his government, he only had the support of 87 Parliamentarians in the house.

Former Deputy Minister Faizer Mustapha told media that President Maithripala Sirisena now has the majority power of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s apex decision making body – the Central Committee. The Sri Lanka Freedom Party's Central Committee has the representation of 55 members.
