UNHRC resolution: Pro-Tamil Outfits In Tamil Nadu Step Up Pressure On Congress

Pro-Tamil outfits in the Tamil Nadu state are stepping up pressure on congress to take steps to ensure India moves a separate resolution in UNHRC for an independent international probe into alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka.

The Tamil Nadu congress committee has responded by saying it will do 'whatever is necessary' to protect Tamils' interests there.

UNHRC commissioner Navi Pillay had called for setting up an international inquiry mechanism to probe charges of rights abuses and accountability for international humanitarian law violations.

The UN rights chief's report was a preamble to the US- moved resolution, to be voted at the end of the month. The draft resolution backed NavinPillay's call to set up an international war crimes inquiry. (PTI)
