Navi Pillay Recommends UNHRC To Form Its Own International Inquiry On SL

UN Human Rights Commissioner Navi Pillay, presenting her global report to the 25th session of the UN Human Rights Council said, Sri Lanka has failed to satisfy the council's call for a credible and independent domestic war crimes investigation.

She therefore recommended that time was ripe for the council to initiate an international investigation into alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka during the final phase of war. She also recommended the UN Human Rights Council to form its own international inquiry into Sri Lanka.

She added that an international inquiry would play a positive role where domestic mechanisms have failed.
