BMICH Income Not Sufficient To Pay Compensation To Dr. Samanmali

The Management of BMICH said its income was not sufficient to pay compensation to Dr. Samitha Samanmali who was injured due to an accident at the BMICH pemises.

Court ordered the BMICH Management to pay a compensation of Rs. 180 million to Dr. Samanmali as compensation.
 
"Our yearly income is about 200 million. Therefore we are not in a position to pay Rs. 187 million to the victim, as per the court order," Director General of BMICH Mallika Karunarathne said.
 
Samanmali sustained severe injuries in an accident on February 15, 2008 at the BMICH when she was organising the setting up of stalls for the medical exhibition MEDEX.
 
Samitha Samanmali was a medical student when the incident happened. According to the medical reports she would not be in a position to lead a normal married life or to perform her duties as a medical doctor and would be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of her life as a result of this injury.
