General Sarath Fonseka Acquitted Of Harboring Army Deserters

General Sarath Fonseka and Captain Senaka Haripriya de Silva were acquitted and released by Colombo High Court a short while ago, in the case in which they were accused of harboring ten army deserters.

Gen Fonseka was accused by the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) of recruiting army deserters, and paying them salaries, during the run up to the January 26, 2010, presidential election.

The authorities said they have evidence that Sarath Fonseka and Captain Senaka Haripriya de Silva employed ten army deserters in the run-up to the election.

De Silva was former campaign secretary of General Sarath Fonseka during the 2010 presidential election campaign.
